Things to Know:
Attending a yoga class for the first time can be exciting yet intimidating. Here are some quick tips to prepare:
- What to wear: Choose comfortable clothing, something you can move in.
- Yoga mat: Bring your own if possible, but check if the location provides mats.
- Beginner-friendly: Classes cater to all levels; inform your instructor if you’re new.
- Arrival time: Arrive 10-15 minutes early to settle in.
- Flexibility concerns: Don’t worry; yoga improves flexibility over time.
- Eating before class: Avoid heavy meals; a light snack is fine.
- What to bring: Water, a towel, and any preferred props.
- Some of our classes require specific props: If that is the case, the instructor will provide those.
- Injuries: Consult a healthcare provider and inform your instructor about any injuries.
These tips will help you feel ready for your yoga journey!
Class Etiquette:
- Arrive Early: Arriving at least 10 minutes before the class starts allows you to settle in, find your spot, and avoid disrupting others. It also gives you a chance to introduce yourself to the instructor if you’re new.
- Silence Your Devices: Ensure your phone is on silent or turned off to maintain a peaceful environment. Vibrations can be distracting, so it’s best to leave electronic devices completely silenced.
- Respect Personal Space: Be mindful of the space around you and others. Place your mat with enough room to move freely without encroaching on your neighbour’s area.
- Observe Silence and Focus: Maintain a quiet atmosphere during class, especially during meditation or relaxation periods.
- Clean Up After Class: Wipe down your mat and any equipment you’ve used, and put them back in their designated spot. This keeps the space tidy and ready for the next class.
Student Etiquette:
To effectively manage class attendance, it’s important to communicate with your instructor if you cannot attend, ideally giving at least three hours’ notice. This consideration not only allows others the opportunity to fill your spot but also demonstrates respect for your instructor and fellow classmates.
Additionally, if you are unable to attend, remember to use the online portal to cancel your attendance.
From the Calendar, select the class you wish to cancel and click Cancel Attendance.
Other Things You May Be Asking Yourself:
- Do I need to sign up in advance? Yes, all classes require pre-registration. Register online at koyoga.ca, and from the Calendar, click Attend Class.
- What if I can’t do a pose? Instructors offer options for all skill levels. Don’t hesitate to ask for a variation that works for you and your body.
- Can I leave early if needed? Try to stay for the entire class, especially the final relaxation (Savasana), but if necessary, please leave quietly to avoid disruption.
